Eligibility Requirements

  • 24 months since last German pension contribution
  • Completed Abmeldung (German deregistration)

Japan-Germany Social Security Agreement

Japan and Germany have a social security agreement since 2000, but Japanese residents in Japan remain eligible for pension refunds.

Refund Amount

Your employee contributions only: 9.3% of gross salary (2023+).

Example (in ÂĄ):

  • Monthly salary: ÂĄ400,000 (€2,667)
  • Monthly contribution: ÂĄ37,200 (€248)
  • 24 months: ÂĄ892,800 (€5,952)
